Printable Morning Routine Chart: The Key To Productive Mornings

Do you find yourself hitting snooze too many times, squinting your eyes open and having no idea how you’ll get out the door in time, or feeling like you’re at the mercy of another morning rush complete with a late start and a chaotic day?

Mornings are the foundation of the day, and how you start your morning can set the tone for the whole day. Without a solid morning routine, your day can fall into wasted time and non-productivity.

But, with this printable morning routine chart and just a little planning, adjusting, and putting first things first, you can be hopping out of that bed with a fresh outlook no matter what day of the week it is.

With a plan to work from, you can start your day with ease, even enthusiasm, and the rest of the day will go more smoothly, too. It only takes these few easy steps to create a simple morning routine.

Strong Morning Routines Take Planning

Your plan starts with a simple list of everything you need to do each morning in order to face the day. You won’t need to spend a lot of time on this step. Just start by scribbling out everything you want to do each morning before starting your day. No need for it to be neat or organized.

Next, from the above brainstorming list, choose the activities/tasks that are important for you to accomplish on a typical  morning.

After identifying the important morning jobs, choose those that are essential, and put them into a workable chronological order, fitting each into a realistic time frame in your morning schedule.

Once you have an ordered list to work from, post it somewhere you will see it first thing in the morning and start working on developing good habits that will give you the best start to your day.

Your list will be made up of only the activities you want to finish first in your day, so keep it concise. If you try to do too much, you’ll run out of time and sabotage your plan for having relaxed and stress-free mornings that give you a good start to the day.

If you aren’t accustomed to a good morning routine, expect this to be a bit of a challenge. After all, your mornings are already crammed, and deciding what to keep and what to cut may require some trial and error. If so, don’t sweat it.

At the end of this article you’ll find my free printable morning routine chart. This daily checklist will help you track your morning routine with daily check boxes as visual reminders of every completed task.

This morning checklist will encourage and inspire you while you work to develop good habits for your morning routine. The printable chart covers one full week, and you’ll be able to print as many sheets as you need.

It may take several weeks of trial and error to get your morning jobs wiggled into just the right order. Once you see some results you will see how strong morning routines can set your whole day up for success.

Keeping track of your timeline using this printable morning routine chart will prevent you from frittering away your morning. After all, you are designing your own morning routines in order to save time.

Sometimes your rise-and-shine time isn’t just right. Other times you need to switch the order of the tasks. The morning goes so much smoother once you find the perfect way to arrange what you do.

A few bumps in the road are guaranteed, even with a solid morning routine. It’s a good idea to build some flexibility into your plan for those runaway days when things just aren’t going according to plan.

Rethink, rearrange, and readjust as much as you need to in order to succeed in your great morning routine. I once had an instructor who constantly reminded us of how important it is to have flexibility and versatility. I have thought of this advice countless times throughout my life and career.

Biblical Wisdom For Designing Your Printable Morning Routine

When we read about the Creation, we see that we serve an orderly God, who created us in His image, therefore we were created to live with routines and schedules, not to be legalistic, but to carry over the propensity for order into our days, not be being control freaks, but by living in the image of our Creator, God.

Looking to God and allowing ourselves to follow His leading, we should do all we can to make the best use of time He has given us, each day a gift from the One who created us in His own image.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; (HCSB)

1 Corinthians 14:40

But everything must be done decently and in order. (HCSB)

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be achieved. (HCSB)

Psalm 37:23-24

A man’s steps are established by the Lord, and He takes pleasure in his way. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord holds his hand. (HCSB)

Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. (HCSB)

Ephesians 5:15-17

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk – not as unwise people but as wise – making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (HCSB)

Common Problems And Solutions

Here are a few solutions to some common obstacles you may face:

  • Pray before starting your plan, and pray whenever you run into problems while trying to get your mornings in order.
  • If you find you don’t have enough time to get it all done, you may need to eliminate a daily task, shorten the time it takes, or combine items.
  • Setting alarms or time stops along the way can get your day started in a timely manner,  and can prevent you from spending too much time on one task.
  • If you’re having problems with one of your activities, ask yourself if this one is necessary, if it should be moved, and if there is a way to make it more pleasant or easier.
  • I recommend printing and keeping your morning routine within view, at least until you’ve mastered it.
  • This process will be hard at first. Take baby steps, starting with one day, and then the next day. If you keep going, you will soon have a whole week of daily routines.
  • Keep your expectations low and don’t get discouraged. Look forward to the ease of your mornings on autopilot.
  • Expect interruptions and be flexible and ready to adjust at a moments notice. You can do this by building in a little extra time for each task, making it easier to catch up.
