Great Pampering Gifts For Women

May is a great time to think about gifts for the women in your life, especially moms. A break from the daily ordinary is usually welcomed, no matter how small. Most women enjoy being pampered a bit, and will appreciate something that helps them feel special.

These pampering gifts for women will give you plenty of ideas for a special gift for that special lady. And some are even free or low cost, but thoughtful and meaningful just the same.

Is Pampering Okay For Christians?

We hear so much about self-care these days, and Christians often struggle with the idea. Self care, or pampering, can range anywhere between total self-absorption and self neglect. Neither of these extremes is the best place for us to be.

This is not an in-depth look at the subject of self-care and Christian women, but just a look at some extremes, and examples from the Bible.

Over and over in the Bible, we are warned against selfishness, selfish ambition, self-exaltation, pride, and arrogance.

Philippians 2:3-4 says: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.”

The other day I read about a group of ladies who would regularly go out into the community and do special things for women who had no opportunities for pampering.

Some of them thought it would be hard to give up their day off to serve women in this way. But they soon found out how rewarding it was for themselves. Proverbs 11:25 explains it like this: “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”

Giving pampering gifts to others is better than seeking pampering for ourselves. But we also know that sometimes a little self-care goes a long way in taking care of our own health and well-being.

The Bible doesn’t specifically mention self-care or pampering, but we see examples throughout the Scriptures of various ways of caring for our own bodies, our minds, and our emotions. A few of these examples are:

  • The  concept of Sabbath rest (see “What Is Keeping The Sabbath In The Bible?”)
  • The observation of Moses’ father-in-law in Exodus 18:13-24 and his suggestion for a better system
  • Righteous people are compared to well nourished trees with strong roots in Psalm 1
  • We are told to bear fruit by abiding in, remaining connected to, and taking nourishment from God, who makes us able to bear much fruit (John 15:1-8).
  • The Bible contains multiple examples of Jesus drawing away for some time alone with God, to rest, pray, and recharge (Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, Luke 4:42-43, Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12, Luke 22:39-46, Mark 6:46-48,).
  • God considers us to be His children and His daughters, precious and of great worth. And we all know how we treat someone precious – we treat that person with care and compassion, not neglecting or mistreating them.
  • When we trust God for our needs to be fulfilled by first seeking His will and His righteousness, that is when we are blessed with everything we need. Matthew 6:33 says this: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.”
Matthew 6:31-33

A few important points

  1. Taking care of ourselves, that is tending to our emotional, mental, and physical needs, is an important part of life. The attitude we approach this from matters greatly. Our purpose is to glorify God, so if we find ourselves glorifying ourselves rather than Him, we may need to rethink what we’re doing and why.
  2. It’s better to serve than to be served. So, if we are in a position to offer some pampering to someone else, go for it. And if someone gives you the gift of pampering, accept with thankfulness and enjoy!
  3. The best kind of self care comes from a strong connection with God. Seeking Him in prayer, time alone with Him, reading the Bible, trusting in Him to care for us – the best pampering a girl could ever want is MORE OF HIM.
Zephaniah 3:17-18
