Spiritual Warfare Scriptures For Winning Spiritual Battles

From the beginning of time, Satan has been trying to defeat God. In the book of Genesis, he appeared as a serpent to Eve, feeding her lies and forbidden fruit. She believed him, convinced Adam, and they got themselves kicked out of paradise.

We will see from the following spiritual warfare Scriptures, who is behind any spiritual attack, how to recognize a spiritual battle, and how to overcome the devil’s schemes.

Even at the dawn of creation, there was spiritual warfare, and it is still alive and going strong in this day and age.

As Christians, we know the evil one’s time is drawing to a close, so we can expect the battles to get even more intense, as he tries harder to gather more people for himself.

It’s Called Spiritual Warfare.

It sounds pretty creepy to talk about these cosmic powers that battle for our minds and souls. These are really not just battles, but all-out wars. And these spiritual attacks are constantly taking place in the heavenly realms, the unseen places, where we may be totally unaware of them.

God has a plan for every person. This is wonderful news! The bad news is that Satan also has a plan for everyone. He is out to lie, steal, and destroy us, our families, our very souls.

Many books have been written to help Christians recognize and deal with spiritual warfare, but we will look to the Bible. These powerful Scriptures will tell us what God wants us to know about this ominous reality.

What Does Spiritual Warfare Mean?

Satan’s self-appointed mission is to separate God’s people from God. He tries his best to take over our minds with all kinds of deceptions, lies, and temptations. The devil’s schemes include every trick available to him in order to place doubt in our minds and test our faith.

If we give in to the devil’s wishes and attempts, we are trading our eternal salvation for eternity in torment, apart from God, with no end. Ever.

Many Christians would rather avoid the subject of spiritual warfare, but pretending it doesn’t exist does not make it so. Better to face it and learn how to recognize and deal with the battles we face, than to fall into it unaware.

Other people are overly fascinated with the spirit world, which is like playing with fire. Becoming engrossed in it can make this other-worldly-ness seem normal or usual, and less threatening than it truly is.

In order to learn about spiritual warfare, we just need to look at the Bible. There are plenty of examples of these weapons of the world within the pages of Scripture. These Scriptures about the powers of this dark world will open our eyes to the devil’s lies and tricks.

We don’t need to dive in very deep to understand that we are treading in dangerous territory when we start to block Satan’s attempts to take claim to us. So first, let us pray:

A Prayer Of Protection From Spiritual Warfare:

Dear Lord,
We are about to study something we can’t see or hear or touch – we are delving into the subject of spiritual warfare. We know the devil does not want us to be aware, but Lord, help us to understand and to look only to You for instruction and guidance.
Lord, keep us from being tricked or believing lies. You well know that there is a battle for our souls, and we need to know how to be protected (ourselves, and our families and loved ones) from these evil forces.
Give us the wisdom to recognize spiritual warfare when it approaches us, and make us ever aware that when we start becoming a danger to the plans of the enemy, he will make every attempt to stop us.
Show us Your glory, and Your mighty power to overcome these evil plans, as we look to You and You only. We know that You, O Lord, are the one and only true God and that You are far stronger than this enemy of our souls.
We trust You to go with us through every trial we face, and to protect us like no one else can.
Please hold us in the palm of Your hand and keep us from being Satan’s target as we study Your Word in order to learn about the protection that only You can offer. As Christians, we are already treading on dangerous ground, but we trust You and lift Your Name as our banner of protection and look to Your word as our offensive weapon. Thank you, Lord, for Your protection and covering.
In the strong Name of Jesus,

These spiritual warfare Scriptures from the Bible are often overlooked for the purpose of fighting the battle between good and evil.

Knowing the background is helpful and makes us able to realize the true threat of spiritual warfare and how to stand strong against it.

Where Did The Devil Come From?

The devil was, in fact, a created being, an angel named Lucifer (which means ‘day star’). He was a beautiful specimen of God’s creation, and he walked on the mountain of God.

He should have spent all of his time worshiping God. But he became corrupt, and in prideful rebellion against God, he made it his goal to set up for himself a throne above God. He dreamed of making himself like God, and even higher than God. God, cast him out of heaven, his place of beauty and authority was taken from him, and he became known as Satan (meaning ‘adversary’).

Isaiah 14:14-15

[You said] ”I will ascend above the highest clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you will be brought down to Sheol into the deepest regions of the Pit.

2 Peter 2:4

For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment.

Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’?

Bible Verses To Destroy Evil Plans

When we feel the pull of the devil, we can become discouraged. We may feel the weight of past sins, accusations, emotions and feelings that we don’t even understand.

We don’t need to be discouraged by spiritual warfare, because it can be a sign that the devil is threatened by something we are doing and he is trying his best to get the upper hand.

These can be scary times, when we are shaken to the core with these threats from the spiritual forces of evil. That is how Satan intends to break us down. Turning to God is the best action to take during these times.

Deuteronomy 3:22

Don’t be afraid of them, for the Lord your God fights for you.

Deuteronomy 20:4

For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.

Psalm 108:13

With God we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes. (NLT)

Isaiah 54:17

But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Romans 8:37

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. (NLT)

2 Corinthians 11:14

And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Ephesians 6:12

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (NLT)

Ephesians 6:13-18

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (NLT)

Colossians 2:14-15

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (NLT)

James 4:7

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.

1 John 4:4

You are from God little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Spiritual Warfare Scriptures Of Christ

Matthew 4:10-11

Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.” Then the devil left him and angels came and began to serve him. (NLT)

John 8:44

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 10:10

A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

We Know Who Wins

It doesn’t spoil the story at all to know that God is the winner and Satan loses this age-old battle for good and evil. We can read the details of the final battles between Jesus, the King of Kings and Satan, defeated father of lies. And we can read of his ultimate and never-ending fate, where he will be kept prisoner behind the gates of hell for eternity.

In fact, it can help us to stay strong and faithful to know that God has the battle plan already written, and is waiting for just the right timing to set it into motion. God’s plan is perfect, lacking nothing, because He holds all time and eternity in His hands.

Revelation 20:10

Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (NLT)

There really is just no avoiding it. If we stand with Jesus, we will be attacked by the devil in this life. But God has given us the proper equipment: the words we need written in the Bible, to hold strong until the devil’s flaming darts are no more.

Equipping For Spiritual Battles: Putting On The Armor Of God further elaborates with descriptions and instructions on how to be prepared for these battles by putting on the armor of God and even more information about the spiritual warfare brought about by the rulers of the darkness of this world.

These spiritual warfare Scriptures are only a handful of the directions given to us in Scripture for recognizing and going to war against the one enemy that wants us dead in torment with him forever.

Knowing that God already has the battle won is all the comfort and encouragement we need to keep on fighting for our salvation, our families, and our loved ones.

Believers have all the resources of our heavenly Father with us all of the time:

His power and protection mean victory to us and defeat to the devil. Trust God, read the Bible, and pray, and He will direct you and give you all that you need to fight the good fight and make it through.

Spiritual warfare Scriptures throughout the Bible can give us guidance and direction as we navigate the process of recognizing and dealing with battles from the spiritual realm.

If you would like more information about spiritual warfare, I personally recommend the Bible study, The Armor Of God by Priscilla Shirer, and the book Fervent, also by Priscilla Shirer. She has covered the subject well in the Bible study and in the book. I highly recommend both.

Psalm 91:11-16

For he will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. They will support you with their hands so that you will. not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent. Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. I will satisfy him with a long life and show him my salvation.
