36 Book Recommendations For Christian Women

stack of books

I always have a stack of upcoming books to choose from, so I am never at a loss for my next read, although I do have some trouble making the choice between one book and another.

If you’re in the market for book recommendations for yourself or for a gift for a Christian woman, I’d like to share this list of just a few of the wonderful books for Christian women that I’ve discovered. Some are books that I’ve read, others recommended by reliable Christian women.

Of course, the number one book that I try to read a portion of each day is the Bible: God’s Word, The Holy Bible, and The Scriptures. This book is absolutely precious to me and every time I read from it, I discover some hidden surprise from God.

Know what? It’s supposed to be this way. The Bible does tell us that God’s Word should be the most important book we ever read – sweet to us so that we want more of it, imparting understanding, and lighting the path we are walking:

How sweet your word is to my taste – sweeter than honey in my mouth. I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every false way. Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. (CSB)

Psalm 119:103-105

What Types Of Books Can Christian Women Read?

The Bible doesn’t give us specific instructions as to what we should or shouldn’t read, but we are given guidance in making those decisions for ourselves. We are cautioned to live a pure life, walking steadfastly according to God’s rules and ways.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

Your word is completely pure, and your servant loves it.

Psalm 119:140

The Bible is God’s gift to us, the gift of His Words, and He sets the standard for everything we do – God’s standard, not our own. God and his Word are the ultimate authority.  See more about this in The Living And Active Word Of God.

Paul  wrote a good guideline for us in Philippians, telling us what we need to be filling our minds with:

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies. (MSG)

Philippians 4:8-9

There are so many great books for Christian women to read, that we don’t need to worry we will run out of wholesome reading material. Keep in mind that if you start reading a book that you feel doesn’t meet God’s standards, it’s right to stop reading it.

For most of my life, I have been a stickler at finishing what I started. So, I labored through boring books and many other books that I should not have been reading, especially if that book was recommended to me by someone else. No more.

I recently had an experience while reading a book. It started out to be a fine book and I was curious about where the storyline would lead. But sadly, it was a gradual slide into the gutter. And that’s when I decided to stop and returned that book as quickly as I could to the library.

Final Thoughts And Reminders

The things we read will greatly impact our thoughts, and since we are told in the Bible to keep our thoughts pure, we should carefully guard our hearts against evil. In fact, Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life”.

If you are struggling with knowing what you should stay away from, John 14:26 assures us “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you”.

And a final instruction as you choose books to read, which will be filling your mind with the words and thoughts contained in them: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 1 Timothy 2:15
