12 Bible Verses About Protection And Safety

The world can be a scary place. Since the beginning of time, there has been danger of all sorts on the earth. Danger from people, danger from natural and unnatural disasters, danger from wild beasts, cancer, wars, disease, and from bad choices.

But God has addressed these issues in His Word, and there are lots of Bible verses about protection and safety for us to refer to.

What Does ‘Stay Safe’ Really Mean?

A little slogan about safety was born when the Coronavirus pandemic came about. All of a sudden, people everywhere were telling us to ‘be safe’ or ‘stay safe’. This saying seemed to replace others like ‘Have a great day’ or ‘Keep warm out there’. or ‘Don’t work too hard’.

Can we really keep ourselves safe? Of course, we can make what we feel are good decisions, pay attention when crossing the street, and stand back from the edge of a cliff. But is it really our decision to be safe?

I love doing genealogy research and have seen plenty of articles, obituaries, and death certificates that indicate that there is plenty out there that is not safe. One relative was burned to death while lighting his stove, and another when her skirts got too close to the fireplace. One man was run over by a tractor and a child died of peritonitis. My grandmother told me about the fiance of a local woman many years ago who was crushed by a huge stone falling back into the ground after a group of men had hoisted it up to move it.

No matter how we plan, or what prevention measures we use, we can only go so far in keeping ourselves safe. Things like lightning strikes, head-on crashes, and ruptured appendices can happen to anyone. So, how are we to be safe? Rather, who is it that keeps us safe? As a matter of fact, it is God who is in charge of everything that has or ever will happen to each of us.

God’s Protection Is All We Really Need

The Bible recounts numerous stories of people rescued from bad situations.

We need to realize that God protects us from dangers both seen and unseen. None of us have any idea how many times He has reached out and kept something from happening to us or our loved ones.

But God has more than physical safety in mind for us. He wants us to live in eternity with Him. That is, He is more concerned with the state of our hearts than He is with bodily harm or suffering.

God can and does keep some of us from danger and disease. He also allows some of us to experience these as He walks us through them. And others He will walk all the way through the trouble and escort them into heaven.

Of course, I don’t want bad things to happen, but I want Him right there with me, no matter what I will go through.

So you see, God doesn’t promise to keep us from harm, but He does promise to be there with us through whatever may happen. Everything happens according to God’s plan and in his timing. You can read more about His perfect timing in Learning To Trust God’s Timing In Our Busy Lives.

Bible Verses About Protection And Safety

Since the Bible is the Christian’s authority and last word, let’s see what the Scriptures tell us about being safe. The Bible is packed full of these comforting verses and stories. I’ve included twelve of my favorite Scriptures on God’s protection.

Romans 8:31

What then, are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? (CSB)

This verse follows another popular passage, where Paul is telling us that we can be completely confident that God is always working every detail of His children’s lives out for good. He has a plan and a purpose for everything that happens, just as He has a plan for our lives.

Bible verses about protection and safety

Proverbs 29:25

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.

When we have complete trust in God, we have no good reason to be afraid of humans. True safety is to be safe in the Lord.

Hebrews 13:6

Therefore, we may boldly say,” The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Our imaginations can work overtime worrying about all the possible things that could be done to and against us. We have no trouble coming up with these thoughts and ideas. But do we jut as often stop to realize that only what God allows to happen will actually reach us?

Bilbe verses about protection and safety

Psalm 4:8

I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.

There is no safety like the Lord’s safety. Under his hand of protection, we can know that nothing will happen to us that he will not go with us all the way through. With this in mind, we can rest easy no matter what the situation.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

We don’t need to be afraid. No, we aren’t even supposed to be afraid. It’s a command. God is the one in control, and he is with you always. Discouragement and fear are feelings. We are to take control of our thoughts and feelings, overcoming them with the fact that God is with us.

Psalm 28:7

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. Therefore, my heart celebrates and I give thanks to him with my song.

Remembering the times when God brought us through something difficult should strengthen us for future problems. Giving thanks to Him as He brings us through is one way of storing His history of help in our memories, and strengthening our trust that he will once again bring us through.

Bible verses about protectio and safety

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.

Even when we can’t see or feel God’s presence, we can know that he is there. Always. When we learn to depend on His presence in troubling times, we will more easily feel Him with us in all times of trouble.

Ephesians 6:10-11

Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.

The Lord’s strength is huge, enough for all of us. His armor and the weapons He supplies for our protection are salvation, peace, faith, and righteousness. These are all from God and are enough to stand up to whatever the devil has in mind for us.

Bible Verses about protection and safety

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

God is never resting, never, ever not at work for our good.

Psalm 118:8

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humanity.

If given the choice of trusting in humans or trusting in God, there is no contest. People try to offer us all the safety in the world, but only the Lord can truly offer and deliver.

Luke 1:37

For nothing will be impossible with God

These are the words that the angel spoke to Mary, the mother of Jesus when informing her that she was the woman chosen to give birth to God’s Son, the Messiah. There is nothing that God cannot do. Nothing.

Bible Verses about protection and safety

2 Timothy 4:18

The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom.

Paul tells here of a time when everyone deserted him and left him to defend himself. But, he says that the Lord stood by him and gave him the strength he needed to speak up. the Lord rescued him from the evil men that were trying to incriminate him and meant harm to him.

No matter who stands by us or deserts us, it is only God who can bring us safely into His kingdom of heaven. No human has ever been or will be able to accomplish that.

True Protection: Being Safe Or Saved?

All of these verses assure us that God is with us no matter what happens to us or to our loved ones. He may or may not save us from danger on this earth, but we don’t need to fear danger, because if we believe in him and trust him, we will be safe from every danger and evil and spend our days in heaven for eternity.

I hope you will find these Bible verses about protection and safety helpful and hopeful as you walk through the uncertainties of life. Most of these verses are quite short and easy to remember when we need them.

If you look them up in your own Bible, go ahead and read the surrounding text, then meditate on the words, pray the Scriptures, and move forward in applying the words to your own life, God will help you understand how to cope with dangers and threats in this uncertain life on earth.
