The War Room: Daily Prayers For Your Husband

Do you neglect to pray for your husband because you just don’t know where to start? Have you started praying for your husband and fizzled out because you weren’t sure what else to say? Believe me, I’ve been there!

This is why I’ve written this set of simple yet powerful prayers that I can pray for my husband every day. You can use these prayers or compose your own to start a mighty prayer campaign for your husband today.

The War Room: Daily Prayers For Your Husband

Each of these prayers focuses on a different area of his life each day. These are concerns we Christian wives often think about, but don’t always take the time to put into words of prayer.

May these heartfelt prayers serve as a starting place for personalized prayers for your husband, for times when your words have dried up, or when you just don’t have time to think.

I need the words of this article as much or more than any other wife. Please realize that I’m speaking to myself as I write these words that I pray will help many wives understand the importance of and the power of prayer, as we all lift our voices to God for our husbands and their needs.

Reasons It Is Important To Be A Praying Wife

Praying for your husband may be the single most effective weapon you can use to strengthen, protect, and defend your husband and your marriage from Satan’s attacks. Here are some reasons why:

1. We wives are our husbands’ helpers

The Bible tells us we wives are help mates to our husbands. This is something we have a natural feel for, yet as we go about helping him, we often get our own ideas of how to help him rather than asking our Heavenly Father, who created us and gave us this instinct. As women, we may have the tendency to go about it in our own power and in ways we think will help (and believe me, we can get pretty creative in the wrong ways)… But praying for him is always the right way to start, trusting God to lead us from there.

2. God’s Word tells us to intercede in prayer

If a man’s wife isn’t praying for him, there is a gap that needs to be filled. Believe me, our husbands need us to engage in intercessory prayer for them, standing in that gap for them. Our men, as leaders and heads of our households, are on the frontline of the battlefield, where Satan and his evil forces will try every ploy possible against them.

3. Praying moves us out of the way

Praying is SO much better than trying in our own power to change him, or even complaining (hint: often called nagging). This is a hard concept for our wifely helping genes to understand and carry out. But realize this: God does not need you  to do the changing, my job is to do the prayingAs you learn to step out of the way and become the praying wife that he needs, your prayers release you from responsibility for your man or his actions, allowing Almighty God to deal directly with him.

4. Our complaints in prayer go to the One who has the solution

We have all heard the saying “The power of prayer changes things”. Prayer changes people and situations in awesome ways. When we pray, God changes us in ways we never expected. When we trust God, we can let go of our fears and stop trying so hard. He can change each of our husbands when we bring them before the God of Hope who makes all things possible. It is then that we will be able to see that it’s God who does the fixing, not us.

5. Praying is both the first and the best thing we can do

All too often, we think of prayer as an afterthought, when other plans haven’t worked. But in reality, if we turn to God as our first line of defense, we will learn to depend on prayer as the first thing we can do to help our husband, not the last resort. Prayer accomplishes God’s will in God’s timing, using God’s ways. There is nothing better than engaging with the heart of God to get things done that we can never accomplish in our own power.

6. When we see God work we will have reason to give Him the glory

Answered prayer is one of the most humbling things I know. When we see God answering our prayers – making things happen in a powerful way that we laid before Him in prayer – we will be delighted to praise Him and to give Him the credit.

When To Pray For Your Husband

  • Always! Ephesians 6:18 says: Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.
  • When he’s facing a difficulty or is in the midst of struggle of any kind
  • When he’s traveling: staying in hotel rooms, on a short trip, or just driving to the store
  • When he’s doing a home project, large or small
  • When he’s sleeping
  • In the face of good news
  • And of course, in the face of bad news
  • When the lies of the enemy threaten the vulnerable places of your relationship
  • When you are in a disagreement with him
  • In earth-shattering troubles or when there is a long list of problems that seem unsolvable
  • When there’s just a little glitch in things
  • When there’s something big or small to be thankful about
  • When he has something important happening, like a meeting or an interview
  • When you feel he may be making a bad decision
  • When you don’t know what to pray. It is at these times that the Wonderful Counselor, the Holy Spirit, gives the words, and intercedes for us even when we do not know what to pray.
  • When he needs to make a decision
  • When facing any challenges of your marriage

Prayer for Your Marriage, and for God To Lead Him

Dear Lord, I thank you for this man. Lord, I pray that he will be the leader of our family and that he will be led by You in all he does. I pray for a strong and loving union between the two of us, as husband and wife, and that I will look to him and respect him as the leader, praying first instead of as a last resort in every situation, whether he is doing a home repair or making a life-changing decision. Help us to prioritize and grow to be completely comfortable praying together, bringing any and every concern in our lives to You.  For myself, I pray for the courage to step out of the path between him and You, Lord, knowing that our individual relationships with You must be first, even before our relationship with each other. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

But there is one thing I want you to know: the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”

1 Corinthians 11:3

Prayer for My Husband’s Health, Safety, and Future

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for this man. I pray for his safety and protection at work, at home, during recreation, and as he travels. Please hold him in the palm of Your hand as he goes about each day. I ask that you protect his health and mind, and give him wisdom in what he does and says, in how he treats his own body, and as he makes both small and large decisions. Help him to get enough rest of mind and body, and time away from his work. I know that only You, Lord, know what the future holds for him, and that You have given him his every breath. Help me to trust You with this man all the days of his life.  In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

“Those who live in the shadow or the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.”

Psalm 91:1-2

Prayer for His Worries And Fears

Almighty God, I give You thanks for this man. I ask You to protect his thoughts and mind at all times. When he has concerns and challenges, please remind him that he always has access to bring his worries or fears to You and leave them at Your feet. Give him the direction to make the right decisions and help us to be able to talk about his concerns with calm and peace, and to bring them all before You as a couple (even when the list is long or the problems seem impossible), knowing that we can trust You in everything, because You hold every answer to every question and problem there is.  In the Name Of Jesus Christ, Amen

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Prayer For Him At Work

Dear God, I thank you for my husband. I pray that he will find fulfillment in the work that You have given him, and if You have something more or different for him to do, that You would make it clear to both of us. If he is ever out of work, please lead him to the right job and let him not stay unemployed for any length of time. I ask You to carry him through this day, as with all of his days at work, and help him to deal rightly with any problems or issues that arise. Show him how to lead with godly principles, regardless of his work. And when he comes home to me and our family, help him to be able to leave work with the assurance that he has accomplished what You gave him to do for yet another day. Give him the ambition and motivation to always do his best at his work. Please help him to be paid fairly and not be cheated in any way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

I Thessalonians 4:11-12

Prayer For His Spiritual Walk with the Lord

Dear Lord, I am so thankful for this husband that You have given me. I pray, Lord, that You would speak to his heart and that he will have the desire for an ever-deepening relationship with You. Lord, I ask for You to teach him and to give him a heart open to receive the truth. Connect him with mentors who will speak truth to him. Please don’t allow him to be drawn in by any false teachers, but give him the discernment to recognize false teaching when he comes across it. Please make us comfortable praying together as man and wife, and let this lead us into a more trusting and deeper relationship with You and with each other. I trust You to give my husband the spiritual strength that can only come from You.  In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

...keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Hebrews 12:2

Prayer for his Protection From Temptation

Father God, I am thanking you daily for my husband. I pray that You will help him to reject temptation. Remind him that You were tempted in every way just like we are, and so You know exactly how it feels. Protect him from the plans of the enemy and give him a way out every single time. Help him to learn to depend on You to bring him through every temptation he encounters. I pray that he will not give in to temptations and that He will look to You and trust in Your power to save him from sin and to deliver him from evil.  In the Name of our Lord Jesus, Amen

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

Prayer for His influence

Thank you, dear Lord, for giving me this man to be my husband. Help him to always be alert to how his life influences others and ways that he can share his testimony with others. Give him the courage to speak up and not shrink back from sharing his faith with people he encounters. Help him to show others Your love, and to not be easily offended.  If there is any offense, help him to respond to it with grace and mercy, under Your hand of guidance. Always give him the right words to speak in response to everything he encounters, and help him know when to speak and when to remain silent.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, either, even though I'm in prison for Him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.
